A subnetwork or subnet is a logical subdivision of an IP Network. The practice of dividing a network into two or more networks is called subnetting. This is done to address following:

1. Dividing a large network into smaller networks so that they are managable.
2. Some IP addresses may need additional security than others. This is achieved by creating a subnet and providing additional security on that part.
